CAPE TOWN – Langa organisations are mourning the death of Nosipho “Mhizana” Daniels, saying her passing has left a void that will be difficult to fill. Daniels, 46, died in hospital on Saturday 4 April, after a short illness.

She was the founder and director of Malihambe Women Outreach, an organisation focused on fighting gender-based violence.

The co-founder of #LangaForMen, Luyolo Lengisi-Hawule, described Daniels’ death as a hard pill to swallow. She said the loss is not only to her family, but to the entire community.

Leaders describe Daniels as ‘voice of the voiceless

“Langa has lost an activist, someone who stood for the truth. She was well known not only in Langa, but across the province because of her work. We are heartbroken,” said Lengisi-Hawule. He added that Daniels was the voice of the voiceless. “She dedicated her life to assisting others. She practised what she preached,” he said.

Nosipho Daniels remembered as a fearless GBV activist

Langa Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) Stakeholder Forum chair, Anele Gqasana, described Daniels as a fearless cadre.

“We continue to mourn the passing of Nosipho ‘Mhizana’ Daniels, a fearless GBVF activist, community policing forum (CPF) member, Langa Spiritual Crime Prevention (SCPF) member, and the founder and director of Malihambe Women Outreach. Her unwavering commitment to justice, the protection of the vulnerable, and community empowerment leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations,” he said in a statement.

Family and community left heartbroken

Ward 51 councillor, Lwazi Pakade, conveyed his condolences to the family, assuring them they are not alone.

“Daniels’ record speaks for itself. She was a dedicated activist and a member of the African National Congress (ANC) in good standing, who fought tirelessly against gender-based violence. Her death has hit us hard. We will miss her and her work. We had high expectations for her continued contribution,” said Pakade. In addition to her activism, Daniels was a gospel singer who released several albums.

He added that funeral arrangements have not yet been confirmed.
