A man (29) from Pampierstad was sentenced to 30 years’ imprisonment for robbery and murder after he had voluntarily presented himself at the police station.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Refilwe Diseko was arrested after admitting he had robbed and murdered the 27-year-old Phindiswa Mdityelwa, stating he used a knife in the commission of the crime.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sgt Molefi Shemane, police spokesperson, said on 5 June 2020, a community member reported a murder to the police station in Pampierstad<\/a> following the discovery of a female body in an open veld outside town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The victim was later identified as Mdityelwa. At the time, the identity of the suspect was unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diseko was arrested on 13 March 2023, when he presented himself at the police station. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He subsequently appeared before a magistrate, where he made a formal confession under oath. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bail was successfully opposed throughout the court proceedings, until his conviction and sentencing.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In late April this year, the Taung Regional Court found Diseko guilty of robbery with aggravating circumstances and murder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment<\/a> for robbery and 20 years for murder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sentences will run consecutively, resulting in an effective 30-year term of imprisonment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
