Daar is min 50-jariges wat saam met tienerseuns op \u2019n rugbyveld kan hardloop en dan kan byhou.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Henrik Muller, \u2019n skeidsregter van Kathu, is altyd net \u2019n paar meter agter die bal, selfs wanneer daar afgeskop word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Di\u00e9 boorling van Ceres se liefde vir rugby het as speler begin, toe hy as sub. B-leerling vir die eerste keer kennis met die leerbal gemaak het. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Di\u00e9 veiligheidsbeampte van CC Steelworks in Kathu s\u00ea rugby was van vroeg af reeds in sy bloed. Hy kon smiddae n\u00e1 skool nie vinnig genoeg klaar eet en sy huiswerk doen nie, om dan op die oop stuk veld tot skemeraand sy rugbyvaardighede te gaan slyp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die hoogtepunt van sy rugbyloopbaan was tydens sy milit\u00eare opleiding toe hy as rekruut skrumskakel was in die Garnisoen\u00adspan wat uit die 3 SAKK-eenhede bestaan het.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2000, tydens \u2019n vriendskaplike wedstryd, het hy sy enkel gebreek en sy loopbaan as speler het toe tot \u2019n einde gekom, maar nie sy passie vir die sport nie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hy het as rugby-administrateur weer by die spel betrokke geraak en op die ouderdom van 36 het sy loopbaan as skeidsregter begin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Muller blaas tans die fluitjie in die Van Druten-rugbyreeks, verskeie laerskool- en ho\u00ebrskoolligas, asook klubrugby. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sy vrou, Lydia (47), \u2019n skoonheidsterapeut, woon steeds elke wedstryd by en ondersteun hom in sy passie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sy gunsteling-skeidsregter is Nigel Owens, internasionale skeidsregter van Wallis, want hy geniet sy rugby, hy laat die spel vloei en gee die spelers die geleentheid om hulself op die veld te geniet, meen Muller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hy s\u00ea omdat hy self rugby gespeel het, weet hy watter groot invloed \u2019n skeidsregter op die veld het. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tellings en luidrugtige skares skrik hom glad nie af nie. Hy steur hom ook nooit aan watter spanne kragte meet nie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEk wil net my beste gee vir daardie 30 manne op die veld, sodat hulle rugby geniet,\u201d s\u00ea hy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oudspelers het baie om terug te ploeg in hul gemeenskap, meen hy. Sy hart is seer omdat, veral op klubvlak, rugby besig is om dood te bloei, s\u00ea Muller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sy boodskap aan jong seuns is: \u201cWees passievol oor rugby, wees toegewyd en geniet elke oomblik op die rugbyveld. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
