The police in Postmasburg have cautioned communities not to fall prey to online shopping scams that are currently doing the rounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lt. Col Andries Witbooi, station commissioner in Postmasburg, says shopping scams have been reported in the town and in surrounding areas and he issued a stern warning to residents do not fall prey to these online shopping scams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Victims have reported that they have been scammed by agents who advertise items online, requesting potential customers to deposit money into accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He says residents are also warned that when they apply for personal loans, they have to make sure the companies are reputable businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are also online advertisements on social media where vehicles and dogs are being advertised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe public is urged to refrain from responding to the adverts and from depositing money into accounts. After the deposits have been made, the suspects cannot be traced.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If customers are requested to deposit funds into an account for administrative fees before the loan is approved, they must under no circumstances deposit any funds or provide their banking details telephonically, he warns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
