The use of Mathematics and Science in an engineering context will soon be experienced in a practical way with high school learners taking part in the annual water and bridge-building competitions presented by the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Northern Cape regional competitions will be hosted and sponsored by the Diamond Pavilion Shopping Mall in Kimberley for the eighth consecutive year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs we believe in investing in our talented children, we have been proud sponsors of these competitions for the past eight years,\u201d says Amanda Barra, general manager of the mall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SAICE\u2019s national office has been hosting these competitions for more than 28 years to further high school learners\u2019 use of Mathematics and Science in an engineering context to grow the profession. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Learners across the country look forward to participating every year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The winning schools of the regional competitions qualify to compete at the national event in Pretoria, organised by SAICE\u2019s national office. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The competitions form an integral part of some schools\u2019 activities and are recognised on the same level as academic or sports achievements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to the practical and hands-on nature of these competitions, they are highly successful in attracting learners from all corners of the community and promoting a general awareness of the profession. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
