Die finansi\u00eble volhoubaarheid van munisipaliteite in die Noord-Kaap het sedert 2017 van 39 uit 100 punte na 31 uit 100 gedaal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens Ratings Afrika, \u2019n graderingsagentskap, is die hele munisipale sektor in Suid-Afrika op die rand van ineenstorting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

S\u00f3 berig Antoinette Slabbert<\/strong> in Rapport <\/em><\/span>(05\/06).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die agentskap het bevind dat die Emthanjeni-munisipaliteit (gesetel in De Aar<\/span>), die mees onvolhoubare raad in die Noord-Kaap is, met 18 uit 100; terwyl Ga-Segonyana (Kuruman<\/span>) die mees volhoubare is met 46 uit 100.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ratings Afrika se bevinding is dat ses uit elke tien munisipaliteite in die land nie finansieel volhoubaar is nie, en waarskynlik nie in werking is nie wat dienslewering betref. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die regering word gewaarsku om dringend in te gryp, wat grootskaalse verandering in die topbestuur moet insluit, asook staatshulp van minstens R54 miljard net om munisipaliteite in staat te stel om diensverskaffers soos Eskom, waterrade en duisende private ondernemings te betaal.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Ratings Afrika s\u00ea dat inwoners onder swak dienslewering ly, met ekonomiese groei wat aan bande gel\u00ea word deur rade se onvermo\u00eb om infrastruktuur te ontwikkel en in stand te hou. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die agentskap maan dat indien munisipaliteite nie meer nood\u00adsaaklike dienste kan lewer nie, dit tot grootskaalse politieke onrus kan lei. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Intussen het \u2019n petisie van die DA en inwoners van Kathu <\/span>buitensporige watertariefverhogings in die Gamagara-munisipaliteit gehalt. Die instelling het ingestem om di\u00e9 verhogings terug te trek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In \u2019n verklaring van 1 Junie s\u00ea Henri\u00ebtte du Plessis, raadslid, dat di\u00e9 voorgestelde tariefverhoging van 71% tot 300% gewissel het, gegrond op \u2019n glyskaal.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Met die beoogde verhoging sou rekeninge vir buitewatergebruik met tussen R2 000 en R3 000 per maand per huishouding gestyg het. Die onrealistiese tariefverhoging, spesifiek op rouwater wat van die buitewaterpypleiding kom, sou verskriklike gevolge vir inwoners inhou, s\u00ea Du Plessis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gamagara ontvang di\u00e9 rouwater, wat gebruik word om tuine nat te lei, van die Kumba Sishen-myn teen \u2019n lae koste van 6c per kiloliter. Dit word teen meer as R10 per kiloliter aan inwoners verkoop. Volgens die munisipaliteit wil hy die tariewe laat strook met di\u00e9 van water vir huishoudelike gebruik, ongeag dat dit nie behandel word nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Te danke aan die getekende petisie het die DA daarin geslaag om die munisipaliteit te oorreed om \u2019n verhoging van 4,8% te implementeer, op \u2019n glyskaal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bykomend tot onvolhoubaarheid en buitensporige tariewe, pootjie vandalisme ook telkens die lewering van dienste wat inwoners toekom. Die afgelope dae het misdadigers in die Sol Plaatje-munisipaliteit in Kimberley <\/span>weer hul hou ingekry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verlede week is brekers ter waarde van R150 000 in die munisipale substasie in Centralweg gesteel of gevandaliseer. By die Phutanang-substasie in Galeshewe is \u2019n kabel ter waarde van R600 000 gesteel. Dit bring mee dat talle buurte ure lank, soms dae lank, sonder elektrisiteit is. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thoko Riet, munisipale woordvoerder, versoek inwoners wat inligting rondom hierdie aktiwiteite het om dit bekend te maak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
