An illegal hunting rifle with ammunition, burnt copper cables valued at approximately R45 000 and several products containing dagga were some of the items seized by members of the South African Police Services in the Northern Cape late last week and over the past weekend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During three separate incidents in the Pixely ka Seme District, police members seized a firearm and ammunition, dagga and copper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lt Col Sergio Kock of the SAPS Media Centre in the Northern Cape, said police in Marydale followed up on information and pounced on an unsuspecting suspect on Thursday (11\/08) at about 23:00. The 28-year-old male suspect was found with an illegal hunting rifle and ammunition in his vehicle parked in Roos Street in the town.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In another incident, members of the SAPS in Prieska raided the taxi rank and found dagga worth R4 000 after executing a search warrant. A 34-year-old male was apprehended and arrested on Saturday (13\/08).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The third incident occurred in Colesberg when members of D-relief followed up on information and arrested two adult males who were caught red-handed while selling copper at a local recycling business. The burnt copper cables, which were confiscated, were valued at approximately R45000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kock said all the suspects will be appearing in the local courts soon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Friday (12\/08), the newly appointed provincial commissioner for the Northern Cape, Lt Gen Koliswa Otola, led Operation Teka Hinkwaswo in Kimberley. During this operation drugs and other illegal items to the estimated street value of R500 000 were seized<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This operation focused on drugs, the proliferation of firearms, and contact and trio crimes in the Kimberley CBD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Otola led the crime intelligence driven operation and actively participated in the police actions. This female led operation comprised of members of the SAPS Provincial Office, Public Order Policing, Tactical Response, Kimberley SAPS, Provincial Visible Policing, Provincial Operational Command Centre, Corporate Communication, Kimberley Mounted Unit, Kimberley Flying Squad members on  motorbikes, Search and Rescue, the Traffic Department and Home Affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team conducted disruptive actions at the Craven Street Taxi Rank and confiscated abandoned dagga, concealed in plastic bags, on a roof. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the Indian Centre Taxi Rank the SAPS members pounced on a shop dealing in dagga, space mushrooms, pollen cannabis powder, cannabis cigars, dagga cookies, cannabis lollies and other illegal items. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three adult males and one female was arrested for dealing in dagga and will be appearing in the Kimberley Magistrates Court soon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police members also held random vehicle check points in the CBD and surrounding areas during which vehicles and passengers were stopped and searched.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Otola thanked the team for their collective efforts to squeeze the space for criminals and warned criminals that police will be out in full force to ensure that the streets are free from illegal activities during Women\u2019s Month and beyond. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
