The Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) reminds all in Kimberley and surrounding areas that care services are still available to those affected by cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The association moved from a physical space at 72 Lawson Street, Labram, to a virtual CANSA Care Centre as of the beginning of September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dorothy du Plooy, CANSA\u2019s services specialist, gives the assurance that the staff and volunteers remain committed to providing care and support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur services continue. These include early detection through cancer education and breast, prostate and skin screenings; patient care and support; the facilitation of support groups and counselling; plus wig and medical equipment hire. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur volunteers continue to assist with patient care, health talks and exhibition requests. With our partners we can supply breast prostheses and other related products.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A part-time registered nurse is available in the Kimberley area with patient care by appointment, and screening clinics. Distant support is rendered by an enrolled nurse based in the nearby Springbok. Stoma supplies for patients are facilitated from Cape Town or Bloemfontein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTo help patients in the public sector with access to care and treatment, we liaise with the Department of Health,\u201d explains Du Plooy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
CANSA continues to provide online and telephonic counselling via its tele-counselling offering, which is free. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
