\u201cDaar was \u2019n hele paar slegte valle,\u201d vertel Cara-Lee Greyling, wat onlangs in Jordani\u00eb as lid van die Suid-Afrikaanse vrouespan aan \u2019n internasionale byeenkoms deelgeneem het.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Van di\u00e9 grand prix-toernooi vir vroue, aangebied onder die vaandel van die International Tent Pegging Federation, het die Suid-Afrikaanse span as wenner teruggekeer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greyling het ook die derde plek in die individuele afdeling verower, en \u2019n spanmaat, Ananje Schutte van Jacobsdal, is die individuele kampioen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In di\u00e9 toernooi het Greyling, die stalbestuurder en ryskool-afrigter by die Mein Heim-landgoed buite Kimberley, teen deelnemers van onder meer Jordani\u00eb, Oman, Soedan, Rusland, Belarus, die Verenigde Koninkryk, Kazachstan, Koeweit, Noorwe\u00eb, Indi\u00eb en Pakistan meegeding. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sy is vergesel deur spanbestuurder Dalene Baksa en afrigter Andr\u00e9 Louw, asook Schutte en Suritha Venter as spanmaats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJordani\u00eb was \u2019n belewenis, en om die stad Petra te sien, was asemrowend,\u201d s\u00ea Greyling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dit was vir haar \u2019n besonderse belewenis om teen 13 ander lande deel te neem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sy s\u00ea hoewel die kommunikasie \u2019n bietjie moeilik was, was die venue en organisering puik. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tydens s\u00f3 \u2019n toernooi verskaf die land wat dit organiseer al die perde vir die ruiters, en in di\u00e9 geval het die weermag van Jordani\u00eb sy perde beskikbaar gestel. Di\u00e9 perde moes al aan die sportsoort blootgestel wees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elke perd word met \u2019n nommer gemerk, en elke ruiter trek \u2019n nommer. Die spanlede moet dan n\u00e1 slegs vier lopies op die perde besluit watter perd vir watter ruiter en vir watter nommer geskik is. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greyling, wat \u2019n honneursgraad in BSc dierkunde aan die Universiteit van die Vrystaat (UV) verwerf het, het aan die Ho\u00ebrskool Hangklip in Queenstown matrikuleer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sy kom uit \u2019n tentpegging- en perdefamilie en het al aan die meeste perdesportsoorte deelgeneem. Sy was ses maande oud toe sy die eerste keer op \u2019n perd se rug gesit het, en op 22 maande het sy aan haar eerste \u201con-lead\u201d-skou deelgeneem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As \u2019n ryskool-afrigter glo sy onwrikbaar aan die voordele wat perdry vir \u2019n kind inhou. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Benewens die verbetering van balans, propriosepsie en fisieke krag, leer \u2019n mens soveel sielkundige lesse by perde, vertel sy. Dit sluit leierskap, toewyding, empatie en geduld in. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greyling s\u00ea haar tienerlewe sou baie anders verloop het as sy nie \u2019n toegewyde verantwoordelikheid tot haar perde en perdesport gehad het nie. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
