{"id":56094,"date":"2022-11-15T14:12:26","date_gmt":"2022-11-15T12:12:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/noordkaapbulletin\/nc-traffic-official-guilty-of-forging-matric-certificate-20221114-2\/"},"modified":"2025-03-21T17:39:11","modified_gmt":"2025-03-21T15:39:11","slug":"nc-traffic-official-guilty-of-forging-matric-certificate-20221114-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/noordkaapbulletin\/nc-traffic-official-guilty-of-forging-matric-certificate-20221114-2\/","title":{"rendered":"NC traffic official guilty of forging matric certificate"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>An official of the Siyathemba Local Municipality in the Prieska area was found guilty of fraud and the forgery of her qualifications. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Patricia Staffa, a municipal licence testing official, received her sentence last week in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Kimberley. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mojalefa Senokoatsane, regional spokesperson of the National Prosecution Authority (NPA), said Staffa applied in September 2016 for a post advertised by the municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She misrepresented herself when submitting a curriculum vitae (CV), and during the interviews claimed to be in the possession of a matric certificate, which was one of the requirements for the post of a licensing testing officer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Staffa was appointed by the municipality after the interviews and was later registered with the Gene Louw Traffic College for training that was to assist her in becoming a qualified licence testing officer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div contenteditable=\"false\" data-embed24=\"InfoBlock\" data-pos=\"middle\" id=\"embed_4ea1c468\">\n<div class=\"heading\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"text\">As part of the enrolment process at the college, she was expected to submit a copy of her matric certificate. She then forged or manufactured a matric certificate and later presented the fictitious certificate to the head of the college.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This submission led to the investigation into the authenticity of the certificate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the collaboration between Umalusi, the Department of Education, the NPA and police, the investigation determined that the matric certificate was forged. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the trial numerous witnesses were called by the prosecution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The accused elected not to testify or call witnesses during her trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The prosecution argued for conviction on charges of fraud and forgery and the court found the accused guilty of both counts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div contenteditable=\"false\" data-embed24=\"InfoBlock\" data-pos=\"middle\" id=\"embed_f7946a5a\">\n<div class=\"heading\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"text\">She was sentenced to a fine of R60 000 or three years imprisonment.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>A further two years of direct imprisonment were wholly suspended for five years on the condition that she is not convicted of fraud, forgery, and theft as a further condition of suspension. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She is expected to pay R2 500 on or before the seventh of each month, starting from 7 December this year, until the last payment. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An official of the
