A total of 766 graduands were capped at the eighth graduation ceremony of the Sol Plaatje University (SPU) in Kimberley, and the university also celebrated its first masters\u2019 graduates at this ceremony. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the ceremony in early May at the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre, graduates and their families and friends sang and dance in celebration. Those in attendance were joined by more than 3 000 viewers streaming in on the SPU YouTube Channel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Vhugala Mulaudzi and Kagiso Moroane earned their master degrees by showcasing research on youth health services in rural South Africa, and on the rapidly evolving gig economy, particulary food delivery workers, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the largest graduating class since SPUs inception, the ceremony unfolded in two session. The morning session celebrated the graduation of 156 School of Economic and Management Sciences students, as well as 161 of the School of Humanities, and 120 of the School of Natural Applied Sciences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The afternoon session honoured 329 School of Education graduates, making them the most substantial group capped at graduation to date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
SPU\u2019s first-ever mascot, Letlhogonolo Thintha, who made his debut as \u201cGemmie\u201d in May 2022, also graduated with a Diploma in Retail Business Management. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Guest speakers, associate Professor Ahmed Bawa of the University of Johannesburg, and Prof. Elelwani Ramugondo, deputy vice-chancellor for Transformation, Student Affairs and Social Responsiveness at the University of Cape Town, imparted their knowledge, insights and wisdom to those attending.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
