Gemeenskapslede en sakelui van Kimberley gaan steeds uit hul pad om die Elizabeth Conradie-skool (Elcon) by te staan om die lewe vir sy leerlinge met gestremdhede te vergemaklik. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Martha van Zyl, skoolhoof, s\u00ea hulle is baie gese\u00ebnd. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOns het onlangs komberse en beddegoed vir ons koshuise versoek, en gou het hulp ingestroom. Die Kimberley-rugbyklub het 15 komberse en \u2019n klomp kussings geskenk wat hulle by \u2019n wedstryd ingesamel het. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDie leerlinge het twee ligawedstryde teen Sishen en Douglas in die Griekwaland-Wes Superliga-reeks bygewoon. Hulle het die uitstappie baie geniet, want hulle het dit nog nie voorheen gedoen nie.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die klub speel op 15 Julie vir die eerste keer in jare in die eindstryd teen Sishen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Van Zyl s\u00ea Deon du Plessis, eienaar van Vermeulens Build it, help met die opknapping van die skoolterrein en gebouekompleks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHulle gee goeie raad en daad oor die behandeling en verfwerk op die geroesde heining, en goeie afslag op hul produkte.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jaco Powell, \u2019n plaaslike toergids wie se pa jare lank by Elcon skoolgehou het, het in samewerking met Du Plessis \u2019n hidroliese rolstoelhysertoestel aan die skool geskenk en op een van die skool se voertuie installeer. Die toestel was voorheen op een van Powell se toeristevoertuie waarmee hy rolstoeltoere gedoen het. In die nadraai van die pandemie het hy sy voertuie verkoop. Die toestel pas nie op sy nuwe voertuie nie, maar wel op Elcon se bussie, s\u00ea Van Zyl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNou hoef ons nie vir Zonian Bosman, \u2019n kwadrupleeg wat daagliks van sy blyplek by die Sally Aucamp-huis tot hier en terug vervoer word, fisiek op te tel nie. Met die toestel kan hy in sy rolstoel op en af van die voertuig gelaai word.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Powell s\u00ea sy pa, Freddie, het \u2019n mank been gehad weens polio wat hy as kind opgedoen het. Hulle het hom \u201cKriek\u201d genoem oor die geluid wat sy loopyster gemaak het. Sy pa was ook \u2019n sportafrigter by die skool. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy ma het altyd koek en beskuit vir die skool en personeel gebak. As kind het ek by Elcon grootgeword, en dit het daarom \u2019n spesiale plek in my hart. Dit is \u2019n voorreg om die leerlinge by te staan en die skool se voortbestaan te verseker. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDit is lekker om te sien dat die skool met behulp van skenkers opgeknap word.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
