A mobile X-ray service for private and public patients in Kimberley and outlying areas, including farming and mining areas, was launched by a qualified health diagnostic radiographer practitioner with funding from Droogfontein Solar Power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This local, black-owned medical services company, SN X-Rays, has received development funding to assist in the acquisition of mobile facilities and equipment to facilitate services in rural communities in the Northern Cape. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company itself co-funded the procurement of specialised equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shawn Nzuza, radiographer practitioner, said it was a childhood dream to be able to provide local healthcare services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said it came about due to the fact that his grandmother would have to travel about 80 km to access healthcare facilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI wanted to bring radiology services to people to avoid them having to travel,\u201d said Nzuza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company has been in operation since 2015, has five employees, and services approximately 180 patients each month. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
With this co-funding from Droogfontein, it is expected that the mobile X-ray unit will increase the business turnover by increasing access to new areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is an essential medical service and we are particularly supportive of the mobile services as they will be able to service widespread communities in this province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
