To enhance Mathematics education for Gr. 5 and Gr. 6 learners at the Postdene Primary School in Postmasburg in the Northern Cape, the Nuberry Iron Ore Mine once again partnered with the My Maths Buddy One Book One Learner Project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is an initiative of the South African Mathematics Foundation (SAMF) to assist these learners for the remainder of 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Gr. 6 learners continued their progress with the My Maths Buddy programme from last year, the Gr. 5 learners began their journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each Gr. 5 learner received a My Maths Buddy learner kit, which proved to be an invaluable resource in making Maths more enjoyable. Through the training sessions, learners discovered new and effective ways to approach Maths, realising that it is not just about numbers, but also has its own language and vocabulary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The feedback from the learners is overwhelmingly positive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI feel very happy. Maths is becoming my favourite subject,\u201d one learner said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another learner said, \u201cI feel awesome because I learned how to use the My Maths Buddy Dictionary and how important Maths is. I enjoy it when they explain the meaning of words to me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christo Sehako, circuit manager of the local Department of Education, joined during a practical exercise and project launch. The enthusiasm displayed by learners and teachers throughout the workshops was inspiring. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the initial learner workshops, the project conducted Amazing Maths Words workshops specifically for Gr. 6 learners to reinforce the use of the My Maths Buddy Dictionary and enhance understanding of basic Maths terminology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result, Postdene has already begun to show improved results in Maths across these grades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The roleplayers said they are proud to support the education of these young learners, and they look forward to witnessing their continued growth and success in Maths. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
