Di\u00e9 vragmotor, wat vrugtesap van die Wes-Kaap na Gauteng vervoer het, is van agter getref nadat \u2019n ander vragmotor dit wou verbysteek, en teruggeval het na die linkerbaan toe \u2019n vragmotor van voor aangekom het.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Van Niekerk wat op die ongelukstoneel afgekom het, s\u00ea hoewel die sleepwa en seil van die vragmotor beskadig is, was die vrag grootliks onbeskadig. Slegs die twee agterste palette was effens beskadig. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDie ander 22 palette was geheel en al ongeskonde en nog met plastiek toegedraai,\u201d s\u00ea hy. Omdat die agterwiele en agterkant van die vragmotor se sleepwa beskadig is, moes die bestuurder die vragmotor tot stilstand bring en kon hy nie verder ry nie. Die bestuurders van die onderskeie vragmotors is nie tydens die ongeluk beseer nie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Van Niekerk vertel dat hy die twee of drie polisiebeamptes op die toneel gewaarsku het om versterkings te kry om die vrag op te pas, en dat die ongelukstoneel onvoldoende beveilig is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verkeersbeheer sou ook nodig wees om motoriste te versoek om aan te hou ry, en nie op die ongelukstoneel te stop nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Weens die opeenhoping van die meer as 20 voertuie van die plunderaars, is die verkeer op die N12-roete ontwrig. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Op \u2019n video van die plundery staan \u2019n lang ry voertuie van die plunderaars, terwyl hulle ongesteurd hul vrag laai. Hulle het glo die seil verder oopgemaak en die res van die palette se inhoud geplunder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Op die video is geen polisie-aksie om dit te verhoed, sigbaar nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018n Polisielid op die toneel het glo aan Van Niekerk verduidelik dat hy sy bes gedoen het, maar daar was geen teken van versterkings of pogings om die vragmotor af te sper nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHier is \u2018n geval van wetteloosheid aangesien die vrag in sy geheel gered kon word. Dit lyk egter of die polisie by voorbaat aanvaar het dat die onbeskadigde vrag geplunder sou word en bloot opgedaag het omdat dit hul plig is. Voorvalle soos di\u00e9 maak dit onveilig om Suid-Afrikaanse paaie te gebruik,\u201d s\u00ea Van Niekerk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lt.kol. Sergio Kock, polisiewoordvoerder, s\u00ea dat \u2019n ongeluk tussen voertuie by die polisie aangemeld is n\u00e1 die voorval omstreeks 16:10, wat ongeveer 20\u2009km buite Hopetown plaasgevind het.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hy s\u00ea agt polisielede van die sigbare polisi\u00ebringseenheid in Hopetown is na die toneel gestuur, en met hulle aankoms was daar reeds meer as \u2019n 1\u2009000 mense op die toneel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Skarebeheer is toegepas, en die verkeer op die besige N12 is ook gereguleer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Geen inhegtenisnemings is nog gedoen nie, en die ondersoek duur voort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Volgens \u2019n bron, wat nie ge\u00efdentifiseer wil word nie, bestaan WhatsApp-groepe waaraan inwoners van onder meer Hopetown en Strydenburg behoort, en waarin hulle mekaar inlig sodra \u2019n vragmotorongeluk op die N12, in die omliggende omgewing van di\u00e9 dorpe, plaasvind.
