Crime in the Samaria informal settlement in Kimberley received a blow with, amongst other, the arrest of 20 persons, and the confiscation of liquor from an unlicensed liquor outlet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Friday morning, 10 May, the multi-disciplinary Operation Vala Umgodi team addressed issues of undocumented persons, illegal firearms, drugs, and illicit mining in the settlement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The operation resulted in the arrest of 20 undocumented Lesotho nationals, including 19 males aged between 24 to 49 years, and a 27-year-old female.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sgt Molefi Shemane, police spokesperson, said the confiscation of liquor from unlicensed liquor outlets, which are regarded as generators of serious crime in this settlement, resulted in arrests as well as fines issued to two South African males, aged 33 and 40 years, for illegally dealing in liquor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Numerous tools and equipment believed to be used in the commission of illicit mining activities were also confiscated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The provincial commissioner, Lt. Gen. Koliswa Otola, commended the collaboration between the different role-players, including the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster (JCPS), in intensifying the fight against illicit mining activities in the district. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
