This weekend, the top U30s and veterans were in action in the Northern Cape Bowls U30 and veteran masters\u2019 event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Beaconsfield Park Bowling Green Club hosted the U30s, while the veterans played at the Sol Plaatje West End Bowls Club, with all the finals being played at Sol Plaatje.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the U30 masters, CP Mathewson was crowned champion after defeating Driaan van Niekerk in the finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kieran Kelly, the defending champion, managed to secure bronze after he came out victorious over Diann Cilliers from Sishen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The men\u2019s veteran final was between Danie Koekemoer and Gert Opperman, both from Hartswater. In the end, Koekemoer walked away as the champion for 2024. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In third place was Stephan Enslin from Sishen, and fourth Wimpie du Toit from Hartswater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The veteran women\u2019s final was closely contested between Michelle van Zyl of the KEW Bowling Club in Kimberley, and Laura Fouch\u00e9 from Schweizer-Reneke, who secured the victory by one shot to be crowned champion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the third place was Elmarie Anderson of Beaconsfield Park, and fourth Louisa Williams of Sol Plaatje.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Braam van der Westhuizen, president of Northern Cape Bowls, said excellent games were played over the weekend, with tough competition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Northern Cape players came as far as Upington, Hanover, Carnarvon, Kuruman and Hartswater, and even the snow in Carnarvon did not stop these players to prepare for the event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis shows how committed players in the Northern Cape are,\u201d Van der Westhuizen remarked, who also thanked those who prepared the bowling greens. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe biggest lesson one can learn by playing bowls is to stay humble. Just when you think you are at the top, you loose.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Van der Westhuizen invites everyone who is interested in learning the game, to join a club in the Northern Cape. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
