Terwyl sy bobene beurtelings deur die buffelbul se horings deurboor is en hy hulpeloos gehang en in die lug gegooi is, het Louis Roelofse nie pyn gevoel nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maar vier dae n\u00e1 sy skermutseling met die buffel van nagenoeg 870 kg kan di\u00e9 49-jarige beroepsjagter van Northam in Limpopo met alle eerlikheid s\u00ea: \u201cMy lyf is m**r seer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roelofse, tans in die Mediclinic Gariep in Kimberley waar hy op Donderdagnag 4 Julie \u2019n noodoperasie ondergaan het, s\u00ea dit is genade dat hy leef.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Benewens albei sy bobene wat sentimeters van die slagare deurboor is, het \u2019n horing drie van sy linkerkantse ribbes aan die voorkant gebreek, en twee agter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die horing het boonop sy linkerlong met 12 mm gemis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Albei sy boarms het diep gaffelmerke; en Roelofse het \u2019n gaffelhou in die een kuit, sy agterkop het \u2019n sny en oral oor sy lyf is rowe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLouis moet veel meer as \u2019n honderd krammetjies aan sy lyf h\u00ea wat die wonde heg,\u201d s\u00ea sy vrou, Nantha. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dreineringspype is steeds in die groot en diep wonde, en daar moet nog besluit word of van sy gebreekte ribbes geheg moet word. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roelofse, wat sedert 1998 \u2019n beroepsjagter is, vertel dat hy en ander jagters verlede week na \u2019n plaas naby Kameel in die Noordwes is om 32 blouwildebeeste uit te skiet nadat die Kuipers-groep, vir wie hy werk, die plaas aangeskaf het. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDie uitskiet Donderdag het goed verloop. Teen 15:25 is die laaste foto\u2019s geneem \u2013 en soos die gebruik is, is die area deurgegaan om moontlik gekweste diere te vind. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ons het geweet daar is buffels in die kamp, en het hulle ‘n paar keer in die verte gesien.<\/p>Louis Roelofse<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Met die deurgaan van die gebied het hy en Christopher le Maitre, asook Werner Loest wat toe die voertuig bestuur het, \u2019n blouwildebeeskoei gesien wat van kant gemaak moes word. Roelofse en Le Maitre is te voet agter haar aan omdat hulle weens die digte vaalbosse nie \u2019n oop skoot op haar sou kon kry nie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cChristopher is links om \u2019n vaalbos, en ek regs om. Daar loop ek my toe in die blouwildebeeskoei vas, wat waarskynlik vir die buffel gaan staan het.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Toe hoor ek die buffel snork’ <\/h4>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDis toe die blouwildebees omvlieg en hardloop dat ek die gesnork van \u2019n buffel agter my hoor. Met die omdraai was die buffel so naby dat ek my linkerhand op sy horings sou kon sit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die buffel het Roelofse onmiddellik aan die arm gehaak en in die lug gegooi. In die proses het hy sy .270 Winchester verloor. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hy het my \u2019n paar keer in die lug gegooi. Ek het \u2019n paar keer onderstebo aan my bobene gehang; dan gooi hy my neer, druk my vas. Sodra ek beweeg, stoei hy.<\/p>Louis Roelofse<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEk het glo skote met my 9 mm-pistool geskiet wat nog by my was. Ek kan dit nie onthou nie; wel dat ek die 9 mm in sy oog gedruk het.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die skoot het nie afgegaan nie omdat die loop se \u201cfail-safe\u201d-meganisme dit verhoed het omdat die loop so styf teen die buffel vasgedruk was. Op daardie stadium het die buffel Roelofse so vas teen die grond gedruk dat hy nie sy arm verder terug kon beweeg nie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Intussen het Le Maitre ook \u2019n paar skote geskiet, en probeer om Loest en die ander se aandag te trek. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Omdat dit nie \u2019n buffeljag was nie, het die groep nie die regte kaliber vir buffelskiet by hulle gehad nie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of hy heeltyd by sy bewussyn was, weet Roelofse nie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEk was op \u2019n stadium in \u2019n spiraal, en het Halleluja-liedere waarmee ek grootgeword het, gehoor. Dit het heeltyd in my kop afgespeel.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die ander voertuie het opgedaag en terwyl \u2019n kordon voertuie om Roelofse getrek is, het Le Maitre begin om noodhulp toe te pas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christopher was besonder dapper deur skote op die buffel af te vuur, bloeding te stop deur are af te bind en selfs sy hand in \u2019n wond te druk om die aar met sy vinger toe te druk totdat die skoenveters, belde en stroke geskeurde klere stywer getrek kon word.<\/p>Louis en Nantha Roelofse<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Die buffel was steeds daar \u201com klaar te maak wat hy begin het\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daar was heeltyd die vrees dat die buffel oor die voertuie sou spring en nog mense beseer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Om die buffel sonder die regte kaliber van kant te probeer maak, sou hom net verder wond en sy aggressie aanwakker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roelofse se vrou is intussen telefonies van die buffelaanval in kennis gestel, en die woorde wat sy onthou, is: \u201cDit lyk sleg; dit lyk regtig sleg.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sy vertel dat sy die meer as 500\u2009km vanaf Northam na Kimberley gebid het. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Dit is met genade dat ek leef\u2019<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Terwyl vir die Rocket Hems<\/a>-lugambulans vanaf Kimberley gewag is, het suster Nelie Steyn van die aftreeoord in Stella kom help, asook dr. Andeleen Grobbelaar van Delareyville, al was sy met kraamverlof.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDaar was baie bloed oral om my. Toe hoor ek dis my bloed; nie die buffel s\u2019n nie,\u201d vertel Roelofse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Intussen is \u2019n gebied in die bos skoongemaak vir die lugambulans om te land. Met Rocket Hems se aankoms het die dokter aanboord nog so 90 minute aan Roelofse gewerk voordat die ongeveer 70\u2009minute se terugvlug Kimberley toe aangepak is. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDit is met genade dat ek leef. Ek weet nie hoe iets soos dit sonder die Here moet wees nie; die lewe sonder God as deel van die pakkie is ondenkbaar.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roelofse en sy vrou bedank almal op die toneel, en elkeen wat \u2019n bydrae gelewer het \u2013 hetsy fisiek, deur dokters en mediese afvoer in die hande te probeer kry, of deur die ondersteuning van gebede.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roelofse, wat al eenmaal vantevore \u201cvinnig\u201d \u2019n gemsbokhoring deur \u2019n knie gehad het, s\u00ea \u2019n mens kan nie keer vir so iets om te gebeur nie, en  is trots om \u2019n beroepsjagter uit die ou skool te wees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vir nou is een van die vele belangrike waarnemings wat in die Mediclinic Gariep <\/a>gedoen moet word \u2013 wie se personeel hy as \u201congelooflik vriendelik en werklik behulpsaam\u201d beskou \u2013 om sy infeksietelling weens al die wonde te moniteer.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dan moet Roelofse ook nog besluit of hy wel die voorstel van \u2019n vriend wil aanvaar om die liedjie met die woorde: \u201cHet jy al \u2019n buffel op die lippe gesoen?\u201d as sy telefoonluitoon te kry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
