Teeing off at the Kalahari Country Club, the Sishen Classic Charity Golf Day is a sporting event curated by Sishen Mine along with its partners, with the purpose of raising funds for community development initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the participation fee starting at R50 000, the 36-team shotgun style tournament saw 20 local service providers and contractors swing irons in an effort to support 17 local schools with the funds needed to bolster academic excellence in the region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a result of the golf day, R1,8 million has been raised and donated to local schools. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the support of the Department of Basic Education, the identified schools received funds ranging from R50 000 to R100 000 depending on their needs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Sishen Classic is a long-standing event with great tradition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis year we have opted to expand its mandate from being an event that caters only for sports enthusiasts, to a catalyst for social cohesion and economic development as well,\u201d said Sports and Recreation advisor at Kumba Iron Ore\u2019s Sishen Mine and golf day project lead, Kyle Inglis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe purpose of the Sishen Classic is not only to unite our stakeholders, but collectively contribute towards the inherent needs of our host communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis initiative harnesses the universal appeal of sport to transcend socio-economic and cultural barriers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAlong with our partners, we have managed to raise substantial funds that will positively impact the lives of 12 000 learners across 17 schools in our area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs a responsible corporate citizen, we understand the importance of using sports to demonstrate the value that lies within collaboration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
