Groen Kathu, a non-profit organisation (NPO) that implements community upliftment projects with the purpose of revitalising the town, received funding to the sum of R325 000 from Kumba Iron Ore\u2019s Sishen Mine as part of its Mandela Month initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sishen matched the funds raised by the NPO through its participation on a prominent television programme. The mine\u2019s contribution will enable Groen Kathu to carry out more work in the community for the benefit of the public. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the funds provided geared towards erecting new traffic signage and maintaining the cleanliness of public spaces, community liaison and public relations specialist at Sishen Mine, Thandiwe Mapi, further elaborates on the partnership: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPromoting a safe and healthy environment in our communities is a priority and supporting the work undertaken by Groen Kathu mirrors that. The R325 000 contribution made by the mine to match the funds raised by Groen Kathu, will go a long way in ensuring that the residents of the town enjoy clean and beautiful public spaces. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe social cohesion and volunteerism fostered by Groen Kathu in the community resonates with Anglo American\u2019s values and its purpose of reimagining mining to improve people\u2019s lives. Groen Kathu finance and project coordinator, Annerien Groenewald, said the organisation\u2019s main aim is to provide hope and happiness to the people of Kathu. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe want to demonstrate what is possible when a community stands together. The contribution we received from Kumba Iron Ore will ensure we continue with the work we plan to implement in the community beyond 2024. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
