The young driver of the red Mercedes-Benz SL 500 who was seen online driving on roads in Kruger National Park that were officially closed, and operating a motor vehicle recklessly within the park, has publicly apologised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since the video went viral, outrage erupted over his dangerous driving allegedly filmed inside the protected conservation area. The video was posted on Instagram along with other videos of the driver’s trip to Kruger Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement from the South African National Parks (SANParks) on Tuesday 12 May, head of communication and spokesperson JP Louw said the organisation wishes to make it plainly clear that conduct of this nature will not be tolerated and will be treated with the seriousness it deserves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Non-compliance with these provisions constitutes a serious offence and may result in criminal prosecution, substantial fines, imprisonment, civil liability for damages caused, and administrative sanctions,” Louw stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Soon afterwards, Petrus Janse van Rensburg shared an apology on TikTok following the backlash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I’ve loved Kruger Park my whole life. I understand why this created a reaction and I take it seriously. I hear you. I apologise,” he said in the video statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“My goal has always been to help young South Africans build something for themselves, not to set the wrong example. I’ll do better.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
