An inspiring, high-energy evening showcase awaits audiences with the launch of the first-ever Northern Cape Youth Choir (NCYC). \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking place on Saturday 25 April in Kimberley, the programme will include a wide variety of genres such as pop, African music, classical favourites, and more, promising a concert experience that caters to all audiences, young and old alike.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The concert will feature the choir under the direction of Nathan Carlo, with special appearances by the Marcato Band and the Northern Cape Symphony Youth Orchestra<\/a>, as well as featured soloists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not only is the launch of the NCYC historic, but it creates a dedicated platform for talented young singers to perform at a high standard, receive mentorship, and represent the Northern Cape with pride.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NCYC currently consists of 65 members aged 14 to 25 years, selected after receiving close to 180 auditions at the end of 2025.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The overwhelming response to auditions highlights the abundance of young vocal talent in the province and the excitement surrounding this new initiative,” a choir spokesperson said.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This vibrant and energetic youth ensemble currently consists of 45 girls and 20 boys.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At present, members are based in Kimberley, which assists with rehearsals and logistics during the choir’s formative year. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The choir draws representation from 11 high schools, two tertiary institutions, as well as young adults already active in the workforce.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Long-term vision <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

“Whilst the current membership is Kimberley-based, the long-term vision is for the choir to grow into a truly provincial ensemble representing the wider Northern Cape.”\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Establishing the NCYC is especially meaningful for learners from schools that do not have established choir programmes, giving them an opportunity to sing and develop artistically. The choir also serves as a catalyst for social cohesion, bringing together singers from diverse racial, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In doing so, it helps build unity through music whilst creating access to a professional artistic environment,” the spokesperson said.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rehearsals are held weekly in Kimberley, with the St Patrick’s CBC agreeing to serve as the artistic home of the choir. Intensive rehearsals are also expected ahead of major performances and tours.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The immediate focus for 2026 is on building a strong artistic foundation, refining the choir’s sound, and establishing its identity. The choir is earmarked for a trip to Bloemfontein later this year, with more tours and development opportunities planned for 2027 and beyond.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participation in festivals, showcases, and competitions remains part of the long-term vision.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
