Vroue met hoegenaamd geen kunsopleiding wat nie besef het dat hulle kunstalent het nie, skep nou unieke skilderye met akrielverf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dit te danke aan ‘n kunsprojek deur die William Humphreys Kunsgalery<\/a> (WHAG) in Kimberley, in samewerking met die departement van korrektiewe dienste, vir vroue wat gevangenisstraf uitdien.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Di\u00e9 projek is deel van die kunsgalery se gemeenskapsprojekte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hesta Maree, hoofkurator van onderwys- en openbare programme by die kunsgalery, vertel die “WHAG Prison Project”, soos dit bekend is, is in 2003 onder leiding van wyle Liz Bosman begin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aanvanklik was handwerk vir vroue die fokus, waar borduurwerk besonder gewild was. Toe Maree wie sedert 2009 by die kunsgalery werksaam is, die projek in 2015 oorgeneem het, was die fokus op kuns en kunsvlyt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maree is self ‘n kunstenaar – wanneer die tyd haar toelaat. Sy het in 2022 waterverflesse tydens die kunsprojek begin aanbied en het opgemerk dat van die vroue talentvol is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Ek het na akrielverf oorgeskakel en die gewildheid daarvan het soos ‘n veldbrand versprei,” s\u00ea sy. “Die betrokke vroue wou nie weer na ander kunsvorme oorskakel nie.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Studente kry kommissiewerk<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Sy beklemtoon dat nie een van di\u00e9 vroue voorheen geskilder het nie, en s\u00ea hul kunstalent word ongelooflik ontwikkel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vir Maree is Woensdae “tronkdag” en die klasse waar die volle verfproses en tegnieke geleer word, beweeg op ‘n geoliede wiel. Elkeen het ‘n projek waaraan sy werk, en Maree gee terugvoer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Aanvanklik reguleer ek die klasse met byvoorbeeld temas, maar soos wat elkeen ontwikkel, stel hulle iets voor wat hulle wil skilder. Hulle vra ook soms vir spesifieke prente wat ek vir hulle soek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In die leerproses is al baie skilderdoeke toegeverf, maar die klasse word in ‘n baie positiewe gesindheid bygewoon.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Soms, met ‘n nuwe student, is daar of huiwering of opgewondenheid om met die klasse te begin.
Daar was al studente wat besluit het om nie voort te gaan met die kunsklas nie, maar oor die algemeen verander hul gesindheid soos handomkeer na positief wanneer hulle kuns ontdek en sukses behaal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Die projek ontwikkel selfvertroue omdat hulle iets regkry wat hulle nooit gedink het hulle kan doen nie,” s\u00ea sy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boonop word die skilderye by die kunsgalery verkoop, en die geld word na die kunstenaars vir eie gebruik oorgeplaas. Van hulle het nie familie of vriende wat hulle ondersteun of benodigdhede kan bring nie. Lede van die publiek wat die kunswerke koop, vra selfs vir kommissiewerk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Korrektiewe dienste het ‘n klaskamer beskikbaar gestel waar die studente op ‘n daaglikse basis hul skilderwerk beoefen, en tans is vyf vroue by die projek betrokke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kuns is terapie, help kunstenaar ontwikkel en ontdek<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Soos hul straf uitgedien word, word nuwe kunsstudente ingeneem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Van die huidige studente word binnekort vrygelaat, en hul kuns- talent het so ontwikkel dat hulle beslis iets daarmee kan doen.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boonop doen van hulle nou ook matriek en van hulle skryf hul lewensverhaal neer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Vir my is hulle bloot kunsstudente,” s\u00ea Maree. “Hier is kuns die sielkundige, ons bly positief en ‘n besondere band word gevorm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Die kuns is terapie, en dra tot ontwikkeling, ontdekking, en ‘n positiewe selfbeeld by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Vir hulle brei die wete dat hulle kan skilder en iets kan bereik, na ander dele van die lewe uit: Jy besef jy kan dit doen,” s\u00ea Maree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
