‘n Mens kan die idee kry dat Jesus met sy kruisiging aan die noodlot uitgelewer was. Hy was beslis nie ‘n slagoffer van omstandighede nie. Hy is nie net meegesleur deur wat mense aan Hom gedoen het nie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dit wat met Hom gebeur, is sy eie daad van gehoorsaamheid. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Van die begin af leef Hy met ‘n duidelike roeping: “My voedsel is om die wil te doen van Hom wat My gestuur het, en om sy werk te volbring” (Joh. 4:24, 1953-vertaling<\/a>). Weer bid Hy: “Ek het U verheerlik op die aarde. Die werk wat U My gegee het om te doen, het Ek volbring.” (Joh. 17:4, 1953-vertaling).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sy lyding is nie bloot sy lot nie, maar ‘n daad van gehoorsaamheid. Jesus self s\u00ea: Hy doen dit omdat Hy die opdrag van sy Vader ontvang het. Hierdie opdrag word duidelik uitgespel wanneer Johannes die Doper uitroep: “Daar is die Lam van God wat die sonde van die w\u00eareld wegneem!” (Joh. 1:29).\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hierin l\u00ea die diepe betekenis van die kruis. Jesus is die ware Paaslam \u2013 die Een wat bevryding uit die slawehuis van sonde en dood bring. Selfs die detail van die hisoptakkie by die kruis herinner aan die Paasfees, toe bloed aan deurkosyne redding gebring het. Nou bring sy bloed ewige verlossing.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wanneer Jesus sy laaste woorde aan die kruis uitroep: “Dit is volbring!”, is dit ‘n oorwinningskreet. In daardie tyd was die Griekse woord vir “volbring” ook ‘n boekhouterm: van skuld wat ten volle betaal is. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aan die kruis word ons skuld finaal vereffen. Daarom is die kruis nie die einde nie, maar die wenstreep.<\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Soos ‘n atleet wat die lint breek, het Christus die wedloop voltooi. Hy het ons liefgehad “tot die einde toe” (Joh. 13:1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wat bly vir ons oor? Die vertalers plaas met reg ‘n uitroepteken agter “Dit is volbring!” Geloof is om te juig oor wat Jesus gedoen het. Elke Sondag, elke doop, elke nagmaal, elke daad van liefde word ‘n uitroepteken agter Jesus se woorde.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die Christelike lewe is eindelik net dit: ‘n jubelende “Amen” op Christus se voltooide werk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
