This weekend, the Northern Cape’s capital city is set to welcome world-class skateboarders from four continents as Kimberley hosts the finale of the 2025 Kimberley Diamond Cup<\/a> (KDC) Championship on 5 and 6 December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prestigious event, which closes this year’s championship series, boasts a total prize purse of R200 000 and will feature elite skaters from America, England, Thailand, Austria, Portugal, and several African nations including Lesotho, Mozambique, Madagascar, and Eswatini.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The weekend spectacular at Kimberley’s Skate Plaza represents the culmination of a gruelling qualification series that has seen competitors battle across six South African cities throughout 2025. Only those finishing in the top three positions at each Grand Slam qualifier have earned their place at the championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adding to the weekend’s excitement, organisers have arranged a high-octane FMX motocross demonstration, promising spectacular aerial stunts alongside the skateboarding competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Championship series success<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The qualification series, which began earlier this year, has visited Bloemfontein, Durban, Kimberley, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, and Johannesburg. Each Grand Slam event offered competitors the chance to secure their championship berth whilst competing for substantial prize money, with the Kimberley qualifier alone featuring a R100 000 prize pot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The finale championship weekend will feature community activities, exhibitions, and various entertainment stalls, creating a family-friendly atmosphere around the high-stakes competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Venus Blennies-Magage, MEC for Economic Development and Tourism, emphasised the event’s broader significance beyond sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The KDC Championship remains a catalyst for youth empowerment, skills development, and economic activity,” she said. “Bringing all Grand Slam qualifiers to Kimberley underscores our commitment to positioning the Northern Cape as an active player in the global extreme sports arena.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Northern Cape Provincial Government extends its gratitude to all partners, sponsors, and stakeholders who contributed to the success of the 2025 KDC series. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spectators should note that parking will not be available directly at the Skate Plaza. Alternative parking facilities are available at the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
