BLOEMFONTEIN<\/strong> \u2013 Rural Safety Coordinators in Mangaung Metro embarked on Operation Shanela II compliance inspections at TP Makae commonages, commonages on R702, and N6 Road commonages in Bloemspruit and Kagisanong areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the operation on Saturday, 30 August, seven fines were issued in terms of the Stock Theft Act for failure to brand-mark an animal. The total sum of fines issued is R35 000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Saturday, Parkweg Social Crime Prevention Unit kicked off a soft approach initiative that involves stakeholders such as private security companies, people in the tourism business, as well as retail managers. This policing approach embraces a holistic method and aims to include the general community and educate them about safety and proactive crime prevention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A parade of Operation Shanela II role players and stakeholders was held at Hoffman Square, where Lt Col Olebogeng Mphirime briefed the team. They then conducted foot patrols in Central Park, educating the community on how to eliminate predisposing and precipitating factors to prevent crime. The clean-up was extended to the dilapidated Old Post Office building, which is used as a hideout for criminals. Six vagrants were removed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further patrols and searches were conducted in Middestad and Sanlam Plaza.
