Building on the success of last year’s Pink Walk, which raised R58 000 for CANSA, Mediclinic Gariep in Kimberley is hosting the CANSA Shades of Pink Walk<\/a> once again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking place on Saturday, 9 August, it starts and ends in the parking area of the hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It aims to raise awareness about cancers affecting women and to promote women’s health in local communities. The event encourages women, through a fun and visible campaign, to be mindful of symptoms, notice changes in their bodies, and undergo cancer screening for early detection. A key goal is also to raise funds for CANSA<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This initiative is once again championed by Dr Chantele de Jager-Wood, general surgeon, who has been the driving force behind the Kimberley Pink Walk for several years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Free health services at the venue include blood pressure checks, cholesterol screening, blood sugar tests, and first aid services. Breast examinations by De Jager-Wood and participating doctors will also be done.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, participants and spectators can also look forward to a Shavathon and various food stalls selling pancakes, hamburgers, boerewors rolls, yankees, cakes, tarts, coffee, and cold drinks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CANSA socks will be sold at their stall at R60 for one pair or R90 for two pairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unique opportunity for businesses <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Schools, organisations, businesses, and clubs are invited to join, and volunteers are invited to participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Denise Coetzee, client experience manager, says the event offers a unique opportunity for businesses to showcase their products to the public as there is ample space for marketing materials at the start\/finish area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Businesses are welcome to make a donation in aid of breast cancer, set up gazebos and banners, and display promotional items in the parking lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Men, women, and children – even babies in strollers – are invited to participate in this worthy cause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Online entries will be available via Quicket, while registration and late entries take place on Saturday from 06:00 to 07:45, with the walk commencing at 08:00. All entrants will receive an ID band for lucky draws, which takes place at 10:00. The first 700 entrants will receive a goody bag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Approximately 1 500 participants are expected for the 4,9km event. The entry fee is R100 per person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
