SALDANHA<\/strong> – Die drie mense wat besig is om lewenslange tronkstraf uit te dien vir hul rol in die vermiste Joshlin Smith van Middelpos, Saldanha, se ontvoering, het begin met die hofproses om teen hul vonnis te appelleer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eric Ntabazalila, woordvoerder vir die nasionale vervolgingsgesag (NVG), het bevestig Kelly Smith, Boeta Appolis en Steveno van Rhyn se regsverteenwoordigers het ‘n aansoek om verlof tot app\u00e8l ingedien.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regter Nathan Erasmus het vier weke gelede op 29 Mei vir Smith, Appolis en Van Rhyn lewenslange tronkstraf opgel\u00ea op die aanklag van mensehandel en tien jaar op die klag van ontvoering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshlin is op Maandag 19 Februarie die laaste keer gesien. Smith is gesien waar sy die tenger, grysoogkind, na ‘n geparkeerde motor neem. Sy het saam met haar kind ingeklim en hulle het weggery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daarna kon selfs deeglike ondersoekwerk en ondervraging van die mense in die omgewing, geen spoor van die kind kry nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens Ntabazalila sal Erasmus binnekort ‘n hofdatum vastel vir die aanhoor van die aansoek om app\u00e8l.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Erasmus moet ook nog ‘n datum vasstel om uitsluitsel te gee oor die saak van Lourentia Lombaard, die staatsgetuie waarop die gewig van die getuienis t\u00e9\u00e9n Smith, Appolis en Lombaard berus het. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Erasmus het aan di\u00e9 Artikel 204-getuie ges\u00ea, hy kan haar steeds skuldig bevind omdat sy nie die beplande ontvoering en verkoop gaan aanmeld het nie, maar eerder die dag van Joshlin se verdwyning wou weet waar haar deel van die geld was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lombaard en die drie gevonnisde ontvoerders was almal ten tyde van die ontvoering algehele dwelmverslaafdes wat kort-kort deur hul dae dwelms soos tik en Mandrax gebruik het.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Erasmus het met sy vonnisoplegging genoem dat hy geen rede kon kry om \u0149 ligter vonnis as lewenslange tronkstraf te oorweeg nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die gemeenskap van Middelpos en die naburige Diazville op Saldanha sukkel steeds om die ontvoering, die uitgerekte hofsaak en die vonnisse te verwerk. Die saak is vir tien weke lank in die Veeldoelige Sentrum in White City, Saldanha, aangehoor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daar is steeds ‘n groep inwoners wat in Smith se onskuld glo en wie die aansoek tot app\u00e8l verwelkom. “As sy skuldig is, hoekom weet ons steeds nie waar Joshlin is nie?,” is van die vrae wat na afloop van die vonnisoplegging gevra word.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
