The manager of the Sol Plaatje Municipality\u2019s Budget Facility for Infrastructure (BFI),
Winston Moyahi, has taken special leave with immediate effect following his appearance in court on Wednesday, 28 May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The charges brought against him and other accused individuals relate to his involvement with
an engineering firm more than 22 years ago and are not connected to the municipality or his
current role. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is stated in a media statement issued by Thabo Mothibi, communications manager at the municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The municipal manager, Thapelo Matlala, has accepted Moyahi\u2019s request for special
leave, which is intended to enable the institution to reach a decision as soon as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEven though the constitutional principle of \u2018innocent until proven guilty\u2019<\/a> must always be
upheld, we appreciate Mr. Moyahi\u2019s decision. It is in the best interest of the institution,
especially considering that the BFI<\/a> is the municipality\u2019s largest water infrastructure project to
date,\u201d asserted Matlala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have made significant progress in repairing and refurbishing our bulk water infrastructure,
and Mr. Moyahi\u2019s expertise has strengthened the execution of the BFI. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“However, the charges against him require us to also consider the reputational risk,\u201d Matlala added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
