A student (21) from Walter Sisulu University (WSU) in Mthatha who was residing at Walter Sisulu University Nelson Mandela Drive (NMD) site (Kuwait residence) died in flames when his room caught fire last night, October 17.
Police spokesperson, Captain Welile Matyolo confirmed that the victim was alone in his room when the incident happened, municipality fire rescue team was called to extinguish the fire, but it was too late for him.
“The cause of the fire is unknown at this moment. All other stakeholders were summoned, and the deceased burnt body was taken away by forensic services to the state mortuary,” he said.
He added that the identity of the victim is withheld until his next of is informed. Investigation about the cause of the fire continues.
