Two people have died in yet another collision on the notorious R75 between Gqeberha and Despatch last night, Friday 25 April 2025. In a separate incident on the R75 last night, a pedestrian was also injured after being run over by a vehicle near the old Vista campus intersection with the R75.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
PE Express reported yesterday that last night’s pedestrian accident was the fourth in less than a month at this intersection. The pedestrian was transported by emergency services to a hospital in a serious condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This follows shortly after a report by PE Express on April 17 about another pedestrian that was fatally hit by a Renault Kwid at the same crossing. This was the third pedestrian fatality in just one month at this crossing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to a media statement issued this morning by the Office of the Provincial Commissioner of the Eastern Cape, the SAPS Despatch is investigating a culpable homicide case with regard to the head-on collision in which the two people died last night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two vehicles, a grey Hyundai and a silver Suzuki, collided around 23:30 head-on with each other on the R75 intersection near Bayland. The 62-year-old driver of the Hyundai and the 52-year-old driver of the Suzuki passed away on the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
