The Eastern Cape provincial government has closed the
\n2021 winter initiation season following an announcement by President Cyril
\nRamaphosa to place the country on Alert level 4. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is informed by fears of the third wave that could
\nbe disastrous for the province and the country at large. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Acting EC House of
\nTraditional Leaders, iNkosi Langa Mavuso, said the plans to take the boys on the
\ntransition to manhood should be placed on hold immiediately. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mavuso, who doubles
\nas provincial chairperson for the Provincial Initiation Coordinating Committee,
\nsaid those initiates who had undergone the traditional circumcision should not
\nhave celebration events when they come back until further notice has been
\ngiven. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cParents are expected to just comply with Section
\n19 of the Disaster Management Regulations without fail or resistance. Imigidi (homecoming
\ncelebrations) can be organised at a later stage when the current conditions
\nnecessitated by the Covid 19 pandemic have improved,\u201d Mavuso said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cooperative governance and traditional affairs MEC, Xolile
\nNqatha, welcomed the announcement and called on all stakeholders involved in the
\ntraditional circumcision practice to cooperate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe 3rd wave is raging
\nand we must all work together to ensure no mushrooming of new amabhuma in our
\nareas. Our law enforcement agencies stand ready to deal with any deviations to
