The provincial secretary for the Congress Of South African Students (COSAS), Unesongo Matikinca, has said that they were encouraging learners to stop dropping out of schools because they had noticed an increase in drop-outs after lockdown. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said this in the media briefing they were hosting in Mthatha recently. He said they had also appealed to the Department of Education to ensure that learners were vaccinated, in order to protect their lives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSince the teachers are being vaccinated now we are asking the department to also vaccinate learners, in order to decrease the number of learners who become infected by this COVID-19,\u201d said Matikinca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that they always encourage learners to focus on their studies in this difficult time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He confirmed that they also have programs for learners who are not performing well, called COSAS Study. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Matikinca said in this program they assisted learners who came from rural areas who are struggling to meet the end. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe help them by identifying their problems first and solve them, our responsibility is to ensure that we support and encourage each other so that no one drops out of the school.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said their intentions were also to make sure that they all passed Grade 12, despite the difficulties they were facing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
