COUNCILLORS from Umzimvubu Local Municipality have been saddened by the untimely death of Nkosi Nonyaniso Fikeni, who passed away recently. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her funeral was held at her home at Lugelweni village in eMaxesibeni (Mount Ayliff). She was described as someone who played a crucial role in cultural programmes and initiatives aimed at promoting social inclusion and cohesion among diverse groups. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The speaker for Umzimvubu Local Municipality, Councillor Florida Ngonyolo, said Fikeni was a leader who encouraged education and pioneered a number of agricultural projects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe mourn the loss of Nkosi Fikeni and our thoughts remain with the royal family and all who mourn for her during this challenging time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is my prayer that their heavenly Father grant strength to the whole family to come to terms with this great loss,\u201d said Ngonyolo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The chairperson for the Eastern Cape House of Traditional Leaders, Nkosi Jongilanga Mavuso, confirmed the passing of Fikeni. He said they would make sure that they took up the baton and continued with her good work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe will remember her good work, as she was serving her community in a good way. She ran a lot of projects with the aim of assisting community members. Among the things she did was (to try to expose and prevent) gender-based violence,\u201d said Mavuso. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also added that Fikeni used to do handovers, where she assisted girls with sanitary pads and with other things like face masks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
An organiser for Imbumba Yamakhosikazi Akomkhulu, Nkosikazi Nomandla Mhlauli, described Fikeni as one of the leaders who used to ensure that they assisted the community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She confirmed that Fikeni was one of the leaders who took part in education initiatives to keep the public informed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
