THE King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Municipality has moved to install 13 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras on all its buildings in Mthatha, aimed at curbing theft and damage to municipal assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The CCTV cameras, which started operating on June 1 this year, were officially unveiled on July 19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe CCTV cameras were procured for an amount of R495 000 and are meant to improve security and reduce crime and theft on municipal properties and assets. The installation of these cameras also forms part of our programme of turning KSD Municipality into a smart city,\u201d said KSD Municipality Executive Mayor, Nyaniso Nelani.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further added that the municipality would adopt a phased in approach in rolling out installation of the cameras in Mthatha streets and Mqanduli town but said the pace of the roll-out would be determined by budget availability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The municipality said the next phase would involve the installation of the cameras at its electricity substations followed by the roll-out in Mthatha CBD streets and Mqanduli town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 13 CCTV cameras already installed are being monitored by a dedicated team at a control room, housed at the municipal headquarters in Munitata Building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
