The MEC for the Department of Health, Nomakhosazana Meth, condemned Gender-Based Violence
\n(GBV) and femicide after a woman\u2019s decapitated body was found buried under a bath tub in Vulindlela Village, Dutywa yesterday, 30 August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The woman, Noluvuyo Ndema-Nonkwelo was reported missing in 2019. She worked as an HIV & Aids Counsellor at Dutywa Health Care Centre. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meth said the gruesome
\ndiscovery of her dismembered body at her Vulindlela Village home came as the
\nEastern Cape was still reeling in shock, following the similar gruesome murder of
\nNosicelo Mtebeni who was killed in East London two weeks ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe department
\nhas been robbed of a frontline worker who worked tirelessly to ensure thousands
\nof people in the Dutywa area received the best possible healthcare services. We
\nwould like to call on men to stop their brutality against women. We are saying
\nenough is enough. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNoluvuyo had a bright future ahead of her and would have
\ncontributed immensely in continuing to deliver efficient services,\u201d said
\nMeth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ndema-Nonkwelo\u2019s husband was arrested in connection with her murder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meth urged
\npolice to prioritise their investigation of this case. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey must leave no
\nstone unturned in the investigation and if found guilty, the accused must be
\nsentenced to a heavy prison term. We cannot afford to be losing women
\nlike we have been in recent times. This has to be addressed and we are
\nconfident our criminal justice system would act swiftly and bring perpetrators
\nof these heinous crimes to book.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police
\nSpokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, confirmed that a man (43) was arrested
\nafter police officers found human remains in his house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said this followed after the police received information from a
\nmember of the public about the human remains in a house belonging to the
\nhusband. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cForensic tests would be
\nconducted to determine if the remains belonged to Ndema-Nonkwelo who went
