A man (25) was fatally
\nwounded in the East London Magistrate\u2019s Court yesterday, after he allegedly jumped out
\nof the witness box with a knife in his hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police spokesperson,
\nBrigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, said it is alleged that at about 10:45 the deceased man was supposed to appear before the Court for a case in 2018 where he allegedly tried to escape from prison. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAccording to the
\nreports, he was appearing in court and being cross-examined, when he allegedly
\njumped out of the witness box with a knife in his hand. It is alleged that a
\nfirearm shot was heard during this incident. It is not clear how the alleged
\nknife found its way into the court,\u201d said Kinana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that the deceased
\nwas later certified dead by the paramedics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Kinana, the
\ncircumstances surrounding the incident would form part of the investigation. \u201cAn
\ninquest docket has been opened.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
