{"id":50996,"date":"2021-09-30T13:18:50","date_gmt":"2021-09-30T11:18:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/mthathaexpress\/former-ksd-municipality-cashier-appears-in-court-20210930\/"},"modified":"2025-03-20T19:43:07","modified_gmt":"2025-03-20T17:43:07","slug":"former-ksd-municipality-cashier-appears-in-court-20210930","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/mthathaexpress\/former-ksd-municipality-cashier-appears-in-court-20210930\/","title":{"rendered":"Former KSD Municipality cashier appears in court for theft charges"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Former King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD)<br>\nMunicipality cashier,&nbsp; Olwethu Madikizela (34) appeared in the Mthatha Specialised<br>\nCommercial Crime Court on September 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This follows Madikizela\u2019s arrest by the Hawks\u2019 Serious Commercial<br>\nCrime Investigation team on charges of theft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the statement, Madikizela was employed by the<br>\nKing Sabatha Dalindyebo Municipality as a cashier, responsible for receiving<br>\nmonies paid to the municipality in lieu of utility bills. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is reported that some of the larger clients such as<br>\nbanks would transfer or deposit the monies owed into the municipality bank account<br>\nand would then furnish her with proof of payments. It is further alleged that<br>\nMadikizela used the same proof of payments to defraud the municipality from<br>\nFebruary 28 to March 15, 2018,\u201d the statement read. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fraudulent activities were identified by the<br>\nmunicipality after the municipal bank statements and daily worksheets did not<br>\ncorrespond. The matter was then the reported to the Hawks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She was warned to reappear on October 7, this year for an<br>\nattorney. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The municipality suffered a total loss of R27 ?000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-issued-by-the-directorate-for-priority-crimes-investigation-hawks\"><strong>\u2013 ISSUED BY THE DIRECTORATE FOR PRIORITY CRIMES
