\nHealth member of the Executive Council, Sindiswa Gomba and her co-accused made
\ntheir first appearance in the East London High Court yesterday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hawks
\nSpokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, confirmed that this is subsequent to
\nseveral postponements in the East London Regional Court after their
\napprehension by the East London-based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation
\nTeam of the Hawks on February 12, 2021. They were apprehended on charges of fraud, money laundering,
\ncontravention of the Municipal Finance Management Act and corruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe accused would be
\nanswering to the charges related to the procurement of service providers for
\nthe transportation and booking of venue during the memorial service and funeral
\npreparations of the late Dr Nelson Mandela by the Buffalo City Metropolitan
\nMunicipality ,\u201d said Mgolodela.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She added that this happened
\nin 2013 and 2014. The fraudulent claims add up to R10 Million. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mgolodela confirmed that
\nyesterday was their first high court appearance. The matter was postponed to
\nJanuary 19, 2022 for plea proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
