THE community of Lusikisiki and neighbouring areas are targeted as the main beneficiaries of a multimillion rand project, which was unveiled at the St Elizabeth Hospital, in Lusikisiki, on October 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the acting manager of communication from the Department of Health, Yonela Dekeda, the MEC for Health, Nomakhosazana Meth, officially opened the infrastructure development that is aimed at improving access to health services for the people of Ingquza Hill Local Municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe hospital has received a R246 million infrastructure upgrade, which includes a 64-bed paediatric unit, with state-of-the-art equipment, laundry services and the newly built Lilitha Nursing College. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Lusikisiki campus is one of the five main campuses of the college around the province,\u201d said Dekeda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She added that the refurbishment formed part of revitalising this hospital into a well-equipped modern health facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dekeda said the project also included a helicopter pad for emergency medical services landing and a covered parking area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSt Elizabeth hospital is a 300-bed regional hospital, situated in Lusikisiki, which serves a population of more than 300 000 people in and around OR Tambo District Municipality.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
