Eastern Cape Department of Transport has revealed that work to repair a small bridge that collapsed on the busy R61 road, linking Ngcobo and Cofimvaba, was progressing steadily and on schedule for completion by February 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The department attributed the bridge\/culvert collapse to the persistent rains which fell in the Eastern Cape recently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL) is overseeing the repair work of the bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTransport MEC, Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe, thanks affected communities and road users in general for their patience and wishes to assure them that the project is on track for its February 11 completion date,\u201d said department spokesperson, Unathi Binqose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The department continued to urge road users to use alternative routes as the road continues to be cordoned off until repair work was completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Vehicles from Cofimvaba should take junction 40 to Tsomo, then use the gravel Xuma road straight from eMahlubini to Ngcobo. Vehicles from Komani to Mthatha or Ngcobo could use the Cala route.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
