Protest action by the community of Gomolo
\nVillage in Port St Johns has been suspended following a fruitful meeting
\nwith Transport and Community Safety MEC, Weziwe Tikana-Gxotiwe.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Department of Transport
\nspokesperson, Unathi Binqose, it is alleged that protest action negatively
\naffected public services including schooling and healthcare, resulting in
\nworkers abandoning their posts for safety reasons.<\/span><\/em><\/o_p><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPublic
\nOrder Police being deployed to the area to restore law and order,\u201d Binqose
\nsaid.<\/span><\/o_p><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He
\nfurther said Transport and Community Safety MEC, Weziwe Tikana-Gxotiwe was
\nthere to find the cause of the unrest and find a lasting solution to the
\nproblem.<\/span><\/o_p><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt
\nquickly emerged that at the core of it was the election of a Ward Councillor
\nthat the community wants removed for various reasons,\u201d Binqose said.<\/span><\/o_p><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tikana-Gxotiwe
\nhas pledged to take the concerns raised by the community to all the relevant
\nstructures who will be able to address them.<\/span><\/o_p><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI
\nam happy I met with them as a representative of this ANC-led government. I am
\neven happier with the outcomes of our meeting and their commitment to suspend
\ntheir protest action to seek a peaceful solution to their problems,\u201d Tikana-Gxotiwe
\nsaid.<\/span><\/o_p><\/p>\n\n\n\n

She
\nadded that the disruption of schooling and interruptions in the provision of
\nhealthcare services has to be condemned.<\/span><\/o_p><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI
\nhave full confidence that the leadership is capable of be reining in members of
\nthe community and allow the work of government to continue unhindered,\u201d Tikana-Gxotiwe
\nsaid.<\/span><\/o_p><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tikana-Gxotiwe
\nconcluded her visit with a quick stop at Silimela Hospital for a brief meeting
\nwith the hospital management who had been traumatised by the events of the past
\ncouple of months. <\/span><\/o_p><\/p>\n\n\n\n

She
\npromised to return to the community in less than two months for a comprehensive
\nreport on the situation.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
