Heavy downpours in the Eastern Cape municipality of Port St
\nJohn\u2019s have prompted the municipality to issue an alert for residents to remain
\nvigilant for the next coming days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This has seen scores of people being displaced following a
\ntrail of destruction left by the recent downpours in Port St John\u2019s earlier
\nthis week. In addition to the heavy rains, it is forecasted that certain parts
\nof the province will experience very cold temperatures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Mayor of the Municipality, Nomvuzo
\nMlombile-Cingo, it has been reported that a six-year-old boy drowned while
\ncrossing a flooded river on his way from school in Ngxongweni village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mlombile-Cingo further urged residents in low-lying areas to
\nmove to safer places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe urge therefore anyone travelling especially since its
\nEaster weekend to avoid rivers. Make sure you stay at home if the river is
\nfull. Neighbours must do what we are known for as Africans. Those who still
\nhave safe houses must help others. As Port St Johns Municipality we have that Youth
\nCentre Hall where anyone experiencing any challenge can go,\u201d Mlombile-Cingo
