EVEN though Fikile Ngcayi (40) from Dalubuhle location, in Cofimvaba, is facing challenges after he was shot in the head during a robbery on May 18, 2008, he kept on pushing towards his goal of becoming a graduate one day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ngcayi obtained a Bachelor of Arts at Fort Hare University on May 18, this year, on the anniversary of the shooting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said he majored in English, Xhosa and History and had got an internship from the Department of Education\u2019s district office in Cofimvaba. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said he was working in Johannesburg when he was injured. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI was coming home from work, when I went to a nearby spaza shop, not knowing that I would find some robbers busy trying to rob the shop. I was hit by a stray bullet. The incident did not affect my head only. I am using a walker because, ever since then, my legs are not functioning,\u201d said Ngcayi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also struggles to talk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ngcayi said he decided to continue with his studies in 2011. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen you want something, you must focus and don\u2019t let obstacles distract you along the way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
