Umzimvubu Local Municipality Mayor, Councillor Zukiswa Ndevu, handed over 20 computers to two schools that did very well in their matric results and two primary schools that are neighbours of these senior secondary schools. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The schools which benefited from this initiative were Senyukele Senior Secondary School, Makaula Senior Secondary School, Lukhanyisweni Primary School and Ngele Primary School. Each school received five computers, printers and a wireless router. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Ndevu, the intention of this intervention was to develop schools within the municipality. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEach and every year, we have a programme to develop children in technology. We choose two schools that passed with flying colours in the matric results and two primary schools which neighbour these secondary schools. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThese primary schools are the ones whose learners go to these high schools to further their studies,\u201d said Ndevu. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She added that, as the municipality, they saw a need to allow children to learn to use computers while they are still young. According to her, it would be easy for learners to do their research and there would be no need for them to go to town when they want to do their assignments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The principal of Senyukele Senior Secondary School, Mpendulo Mtilwa, said they were happy because this would make their work easier. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThese computers would help us because our children will be able to know more about computers so that when they go to tertiary level they know how to use them,\u201d said Mtilwa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Principal of Ngele Primary School, Lungile Nqwala, said this would help their learners because it is important for them to start at an early age to learn how to use computers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe had computers before but they were taken back by the service provider. We are happy now that everything will go back to normal,\u201d said Nqwala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
