{"id":49320,"date":"2022-06-15T10:23:23","date_gmt":"2022-06-15T08:23:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/mthathaexpress\/education-mec-sends-condolences-after-horror-crash-in-which-six-learners-died-20220615\/"},"modified":"2025-03-20T22:41:05","modified_gmt":"2025-03-20T20:41:05","slug":"education-mec-sends-condolences-after-horror-crash-in-which-six-learners-died-20220615","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/mthathaexpress\/education-mec-sends-condolences-after-horror-crash-in-which-six-learners-died-20220615\/","title":{"rendered":"Education MEC sends condolences after horror crash in which six learners died"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The MEC of Education in the Eastern Cape, Fundile Gade, has expressed his shock and sadness after six learners from Ndamase Senior Secondary in Ngqeleni <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news24.com\/news24\/southafrica\/local\/mthathaexpress\/six-learners-dead-and-several-injured-in-horror-crash-outside-mthatha-20220614\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>died in an accident yesterday<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sixteen other learners and two drivers were also injured in the collision between a truck and bakkie in Ngqeleni near Buntingville on the T30 Road outside Mthatha late yesterday, June 14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gade has sent his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, schooling community and learners. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI wish the families could find solace in God during this trying times of their lives. Our prayers are with the bereaved families and we wish all those still hospitalised a speedy recovery,\u201d said Gade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the spokesperson for the Department of Education, Mali Mtima, the department has activated the psychosocial support services to assist learners and educators, including the bereaved families from today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cApart from that, a team from the district is visiting all affected school and families this morning, including those still hospitalised due to injuries,\u201d said Mtima.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that the injured were taken to Nelson Mandela Academic hospital and Mthatha Regional Hospital for further medical management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A case of culpable homicide has been opened at the Ngqeleni Police Station for
