The Special Investigating Unit
\n(SIU) is set to investigate Strategic, Technical and Operational Support
\nservices tender corruption within the O R Tambo District Municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The investigation comes after
\nPresident Ramaphosa signed Proclamation R80 of 2022 authorising the SIU to
\ninvestigate allegations of corruption and maladministration in the affairs of
\nthe O R Tambo District Municipality, and to recover any financial losses suffered
\nby the State or the Municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe SIU probe into the
\nMunicipality will focus on the procurement of or contracting of strategic,
\ntechnical and operational support services to the Strategic Programmes and
\nProject Management Office of the Municipality.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe proclamation covers offences
\nwhich took place between 1 October 2017 and 29 July 2022, the date of
\npublication of this Proclamation,\u201d said SIU spokesperson Kaiser Kganyago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kganyago added that the
\ninvestigation will cover any offences which took place prior to 1 October 2017
\nor after the date of publication of the Proclamation that are relevant to,
\nconnected with, incidental to the matters or involve the same persons, entities
\nor connected with incidental to the matters or involve the same persons,
\nentities or contracts investigated under the authority of Proclamation R80 of
\n2022. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
OR Tambo District Municipality Executive Mayor Mesuli Ngqondwana acknowledged the proclamation and called for
\ncooperation with the SIU investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe acknowledge the proclamation
\nas made by the President and we support it. I also make the commitment to
\nengage with all who will be required to communicate with the SIU in its
\ninvestigation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are of the view that this
\nwill go a long way in cleaning the affairs of the institution and restoring
\npublic confidence in how we run our affairs as the district municipality,\u201d
