Police confirmed that about eleven homesteads were set alight on Friday morning, 12 August at Siphusiphu Locality in Port St Johns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, provincial police spokesperson, reports indicate that a group of armed suspects went from house to house, shooting at people and burning down houses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDuring the incidents, one person was seriously injured whilst others survived. The incident is believed to be linked to the previous stock theft-related revenge faction fights among the villages of Port St Johns, in particular at Majola Administrative area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have opened cases of arson and attempted murder for investigation,\u201d Kinana said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The suspects are alleged to have fled to the mountains where the police are currently searching for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPolice management have deployed additional forces in the affected villages and will continue to maintain a strong presence in those villages until we are satisfied that there is peace and stability.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No arrests have been made at this stage. The investigation continues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
