Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC) is set to host
\nthe Black Equity Financing Symposium taking place on August 30 at the
\nEast London International Convention Centre in the Eastern Cape. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ECDC hosts the Symposium as a platform for engagement on
\npossible interventions for supporting black entrepreneurs across different sectors
\nto bridge the equity gap to advance their interests of starting or growing
\ntheir businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It has been identified that there is a rising need for
\nfocused venture capital and private equity funding in South Africa to increase
\nthe local pool of black entrepreneurs through funding support interventions to
\nbridge the equity gap. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chief Executive Officer of the ECDC, Ayanda Wakaba, has
\nindicated that \u201cthe Symposium will bring together key stakeholders from the
\npublic and private sectors to exchange ideas on the challenges, proposed
\ninterventions, possible areas of collaboration as well as a proposed action
\nplans.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some of the speakers joining the Black Equity Financing
\nSymposium will be the Department of Small Business Development Minister Stella
\nNdabeni-Abrahams, Chief Executive Officer of SEFA Mxolisi Matshamba, DBSA Chief
\nExecutive Patrick Dlamini, ABSA Managing Executive of Public Sector Stephen
\nSeaka, Black Business Council CEO Kganki Matabane, BMF President Andile
\nNomlala, the Chief Executive Officer of the Boarder Kei Business Chamber
\nLizelle Maurice, Seed South Capital Managing Partner Sakhile Xulu, Marathon
\nGroup Director Enrico Cupido, NAFCOC President Sabelo Macingwane, and many
\nother public and private sector enterprise development eco-system builders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The province will be led by the Eastern Cape Premier Oscar
\nMabuyane with provincial business chambers and development agencies joining. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Acknowledging the initiatives which have been introduced in
\nSouth Africa to meet the different needs of black owned businesses at different
\nstages, the ECDC Board-Chairperson Vuyani Jarana points out that, \u201cthere is a
\nneed to build on existing instruments to expand reach by black entrepreneurs
\nacross various sectors of the economy, through the development of equity funding
\nsupport initiatives for black entrepreneurs, without the risk of losing
\nownership of ideas in those transactions.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
