School Management from Zingisa Comprehensive High School in Mthatha recently hosted a Cultural Day event, with the aim of reminding their learners about their cultures as they are coming from different countries of Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the co-ordinator of this event, Nangamso Gubelana they started hosting this event in 2011, and have been hosting it every year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said as the school they saw it important that they host this day because their learners are coming from different countries in Africa. He said they looked at the issue of moral decay and saw that children had lost respect. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe said we cannot sit down and keep quiet, yet we see that our society is being destroyed daily, so we then decided to do something to mould the leaders of tomorrow,\u201d said Gubelana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gubelana added that on the same event they also celebrated the Founder\u2019s Day since the school was started by nuns of the Roman Catholic Church. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOn this day learners show us their talents from different cultures, traditional food and things that were done by our forefathers.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The President of the Representative Council of Learners (RCL), Mibongo Mtimba, said after this event they always see learners changing their ways. He said even the way they speak shows that they learned something from this event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs we are coming from different countries this helps us to be united and become one family,\u201d said Mtimba. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Traditional Expert, Dr Loyiso Nqevu, said it is important that people knows where they are coming from. He said all the nations have their own way of showing their cultures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are the rainbow nation, but the mistake we made is that we left our culture, and this is a problem because we are now a lost nation. Your culture interprets what you are,\u201d said Nqevu. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that some of the things that led this nation to be lost is the lack of respect to senior citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Nqevu it is important to listen to elders all the time and to know the meaning of the word \u2018no\u2019. \u201cIf you don\u2019t understand the meaning of no, it means you will also have problems in your life.
